Accountant pleads guilty to fraud

John R. Ring, 25, of Ellicott City, who was accused of defrauding church friends and his uncle?s accounting firm, pleaded guilty Monday to wire fraud and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake has set sentencing for July 31.

Ring was employed as an accountant at Fisher-Ring LLC, an accounting firm headquartered in Columbia.

From November 2005 to July 2006, Ring defrauded several clients of the firm, acquaintances through his church, and other investors, as well as the firm and its partners, of approximately $450,000, prosecutors said.
