Catholic League president Bill Donohue slammed the FBI for targeting orthodox Catholics as “radical-traditionalist Catholics.”
“There hasn’t been a wave of virulent anti-Catholicism in the West like what we are currently witnessing in at least a hundred years,” Donohue said in a statement.

A whistleblower leaked a report produced by the FBI’s Richmond field office titled “Interest of Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists in Radical Traditionalist Catholic Ideology Almost Certainly Presents New Mitigation Opportunities.”
The FBI whistleblower Kyle Seraphin, an FBI special agent for six years, revealed that the report analyzed that Catholics who prefer the Latin Mass and pre-Vatican II teachings can amount to an “adherence to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and white supremacist ideology.”
The report’s primary source for the FBI report’s conclusions is the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a group Donohue says is “far-left and scandal-ridden.”
The Catholic League president observed that the report copied and pasted directly from SPLC’s list of “Radical Traditional Catholicism Hate Groups.”
Donohue remarked that SPLC has a long history of attacking religious and socially conservative groups like the Family Research Council and the Ruth Institute as “hate groups.”
“They are anything but hateful,” said Donohue.
The FBI leaker added, “The FBI is forbidden from opening cases or publishing products based solely on First Amendment-protected activities.”
FBI has been under recent scrutiny for having a SWAT team of 25 agents raid the home of a “40 Days for Life” volunteer Mark Houck, a devout Catholic, who stood outside an abortion clinic and was confronted by an abortion clinic escort Bruce Love. Houck was charged with two violations of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.

Houck was cleared and found not guilty when the 12-person jury unanimously sided with Houck for not violating the FACE Act.
“The West is decaying, and it is happening at lightning speed,” Donohue wrote. “We have no other choice than to expose these fascists and defeat them.”
