Keith Olbermann says he’s again leaving ESPN to ‘serve my country’ through political commentary

Keith Olbermann is once again leaving ESPN to return to the world of political commentary.

Olbermann has been on and off the network a number of times before. This time, it’s to start a live YouTube show called The Worst Person in the World, a hearkening back to a segment from his old show on MSNBC.

“I have adhered, I hope, to their desire for their sportscasters to refrain from purely political commentary, which is a policy with which I largely agree with anyway,” Olbermann said in a video on Twitter.

Olbermann said he was let out of his contract early by the network.

“They have now agreed with my desire to go and serve my country the best way I know how, which is by focusing my energy on political commentary,” he added. “I sincerely wish them continued success. Like they need my wishes to have continued success.”

ESPN has faced criticism over the liberties some hosts have taken with the network’s policy against political talk. The network has tried to crack down on this.

Olbermann’s show will premiere on Wednesday at 5 p.m. EDT.

Olbermann laughed as he walked out of the camera’s view.

“You didn’t really think I was going to sit out this election, did you?”
