‘Unfit mentally and morally’: Biden backer Barbra Streisand lashes out at Trump

President Trump cost people’s lives by mismanaging the coronavirus pandemic, according to film and music icon Barbra Streisand.

“Think of how many lives could have been saved if he had paid attention to the warnings and acted earlier. In other words, Donald Trump is dangerous to our health. We cannot afford four more years of malice, division, and lies — and neither can our planet,” Streisand told Joe Biden donors at a virtual fundraiser Thursday.

Streisand, who’s previously called Trump a “one-man weapon of mass destruction,” also ripped the White House incumbent’s response to the civil unrest sparked by George Floyd’s death under the knee of a Minneapolis Police Department officer. Trump vowed to be the “law and order president” after many protests against police brutality and racial injustice left a trail of property destruction behind.

“He calls himself the law & order president, but he doesn’t obey the law, and he can’t keep the order. This reckless man doesn’t have the wisdom or the character to lead the nation,” the multiple award-winning singer and actress said. “We don’t need a bully as a president who picks fights and rules by retaliation. Let’s face it: Trump is unfit mentally and morally to hold this office.”

Streisand, 78, launched into her lengthy rebuke of Trump in front of about 600 people who logged on for Biden’s fundraiser. Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jay Leno, and Andra Day were other famous faces on the call, endorsing the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee.

In contrast, Streisand, who had promised to leave the country if Trump won in 2016 before toying with the idea of moving to Canada if Democrats didn’t take back the House in 2018, lavished Biden with praise. She highlighted his environmental policies and early support of gay marriage, parroting Biden’s campaign message calling for empathy from the Oval Office.

“Joe Biden will also bring back our pride as Americans,” she said. “America is a great country, but we’re losing what has made us great — our democracy, our constitution, our fairness, our generosity. Joe Biden is the leader we need now. And we must do everything we can to ensure that he’s elected.”

Biden returned Streisand’s warm words. He told donors he was a longtime fan of the entertainer, having first seen her in concert when he was in college.

“I have every single album you have ever ever made. You think I’m kidding. Check on my cellphone, they’re all there,” he said.
