Amazon said it plans to hire an additional 75,000 workers in the coming weeks as the company rushes to meet increased demand from consumers amid the coronavirus crisis.
“We continue to see increased demand as our teams support their communities and are going to continue to hire,” the company said Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Amazon has hired more than 100,000 people to fill both part-time and full-time jobs in its thousands of warehouses over the last month.

One of the largest companies in the world, Amazon has been criticized by some employees for not doing more to protect them from contracting the virus, with some workers protesting working conditions.
“Since the building won’t close by itself, we’re going to have to force [Amazon’s] hand,” Chris Smalls, a lead organizer for a Staten Island walkout, said. “We will not return until the building gets sanitized.”
Last month, the company said it would pay another $350 million in bonuses and salary increases to workers. That amount will be increased to $500 million in the coming weeks.
