An Ohio man has been charged with making online threats against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, according to federal authorities.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cleveland said 41-year-old Timothy Ireland of Toledo, Ohio, was charged with delivering threats against a member of Congress and illegally possessing bullets.
Ireland made a Facebook post in which he allegedly wrote that the New York congresswoman “should be shot.”
“Can’t fire me, my employer would load the gun for me,” Ireland added, according to court records.
U.S. Capitol Police began investigating the post on July 23, according to an affidavit written by a Capitol Police police agent. The agent contacted Ireland on Aug. 2 about the post. Ireland confirmed he wrote the post, saying he was “very proud of it.”
Authorities searched his home on Thursday and discovered seven rounds of ammunition. Ireland was later taken into federal custody, where he remains.
