Potholepalooza kills lowest number of potholes yet

The District’s annual Potholepalooza campaign ended Thursday with city crews filling 5,201 potholes around the city in 24 days.

Filling 217 of the wheel-snagging holes per day may sound like a lot, but it’s the lowest number in the three years of the city’s pothole-killing blitz. The District Department of Transportation filled 7,690 last year and 6,084 the year before.

“We had a much milder winter compared to last year and as a result we didn’t get as many potholes reported to us during Potholepalooza,” DDOT Interim Director Terry Bellamy said. “But that’s good – that means our roads are in better shape.”

Those who missed out on getting their local potholes plugged don’t have to wait until next spring, though. The city urges people to continue reporting any potholes by calling the Mayor’s Call Center at 311, tweeting to @DDOTDC or filling out an online form at 311.dc.gov.
