Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, debuted a custom royal warrant Wednesday, the latest of his efforts to organize climate sustainability infrastructure.
The “Terra Carta” seal is awarded by the prince to 45 different companies that align with the royal’s vision for environmental sustainability. The prince’s ideas are outlined in the seal’s namesake, “Terra Carta,” a short publication with a Latin title that explores sustainability in the private sector.
“Across a range of different industries, all of these recipients have acknowledged the gravity of the challenges facing our planet and have committed to playing a leading role in accelerating the world’s transition to a sustainable future,” the seal’s official website states.

The seal was awarded to major multinational conglomerates including Amazon, Unilever, AstraZeneca, Bank of America, and more “in recognition of their commitment to, and momentum towards, the creation of genuinely sustainable markets.”
The seal is rendered in a green circle covered in weaving ivy, flowers, and insects. It was designed by British creative collective LoveFrom.
“Working closely with HRH The Prince of Wales, the design was based upon sacred forms that establish the underlying organisation and structure of the design,” the design team, led by Sir Jony Ive, wrote. “Natural references include oak leaves, fern, magnolia, honeybees, swallows and the monarch butterfly, entwined with the typography. These elements reinforce the sense of harmony and fertility, allowing flora and fauna to gently take control in a vibrant celebration of nature.”

In the days running up to the COP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Prince Charles discussed the need for radical overhauls to urban planning.
“Sustainable urban development is clearly critical in responding to the climate emergency,” the prince told Express in an interview published Oct. 29. “We all know it’s so utterly and vitally important for the future of our planet and of course central, indeed absolutely fundamental I would have said, to any prospect of actually achieving the crucial COP26 targets.”
