Trump heads to Alabama to stump for Luther Strange

President Trump will travel to Alabama Friday night to campaign for incumbent Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., ahead of the Tuesday’s Republican primary election against Judge Roy Moore.

“Will be in Alabama tonight. Luther Strange has gained mightily since my endorsement, but will be very close. He loves Alabama, and so do I!” Trump tweeted Friday morning. Trump endorsed Strange to permanently replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the Senate, who had held the seat before being tapped for a Cabinet position.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told the Conservative Action Project in a closed-door meeting in Washington, D.C., earlier this month that he will back Moore, the former state Supreme Court justice over the acting senator.

Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., who unsuccessfully ran against Moore and Strange for the top two slots, has also endorsed Moore. The special election is Sept. 26.
