Obamas’ production company may leave Spotify: Report

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle and their production company, Higher Ground, reportedly may be considering leaving Spotify, according to industry sources.

The three-year deal the Obamas have with Spotify is coming to an end soon, and they do not have any further projects in development with the company, Vanity Fair reports. The former presidential couple created several shows on the platform, including a podcast hosted by Michelle and another hosted by Barack and musician Bruce Springsteen.

Team members from Higher Ground reportedly said they are frustrated with some aspects of working with Spotify, including “finding it difficult to get additional shows off the ground.”

The Obamas are more interested in promoting new, younger voices with their platform, rather than placing the spotlight on themselves, which has reportedly conflicted with Spotify’s desire for their content.

Spotify recently came under fire for not removing Rogan from its platform after he interviewed two doctors who expressed views on the coronavirus vaccine not accepted by government officials. Rogan spoke with Dr. Robert Malone, who helped contribute to the mRNA research that made the vaccines possible, as well as Dr. Peter McCullough, both of whom spoke out against vaccine mandates.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Spotify for comment but has not received a response.
