NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Hampton Roads Transit plans to buy a new Elizabeth River ferry and improve the existing fleet and docks.
Media outlets report that the Federal Highway Administration awarded a $1.8 million grant to the transit agency to help pay for the improvements. The agency says a 20 percent local match will come from its advanced capital contribution fund.
Three ferries currently operate between Norfolk and Portsmouth. From April to September, the ferries also provide service to the Harbor Park baseball stadium.
