Bernie Sanders announced Tuesday that he is transforming his campaign organization, which fell short of making him the Democratic nominee this year, to help progressive candidates get elected at the local level.
“Our campaign is going to transition into another organization which is going to support candidates running for school board, for city council, for state legislature,” Sanders said at a Tuesday breakfast for the Wisconsin delegation at the Democratic National Convention.
Sanders said his new group would help the “wonderful people in every state of this country … who love this country, who want to see this country become all that we know that we can become.”
The goal of his new group is to help represent the interests of the working class, and to “bring people into the political process around a progressive agenda.”
Sanders thanked the supporters of his “political revolution,” but nonetheless encouraged them to support establishment Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
As the crowd continued to chant his first name, Sanders said, “let me conclude by thanking you all of you for the support that you gave for political revolution, and I continue to look forward to working with you in the future.”
