Nevada Rep. Cresent Hardy hospitalized after heart attack

Rep. Cresent Hardy, R-Nev., was hospitalized after suffering a “minor” heart attack on Monday night, according to his office.

Hardy, who is facing a tough reelection battle this fall, is expected to return to Congress when it reconvenes Sept. 6, his office told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Spokesman Larry Farnsworth said Hardy, 59, underwent a “routine medical procedure” after the incident, which occurred in the Las Vegas area, and he remains hospitalized there.

“Out of an abundance of caution, doctors are continuing to observe him while he makes a full and speedy recovery,” Farnsworth said in a statement. “We expect the congressman to return to a full schedule later this week and is expected to be in Washington next week for votes when Congress returns from the August district work period.”

Hardy is facing Democrat Ruben Kihuen, a Mexican-American state senator, who tweeted his well-wishes for his rival. Because Nevada’s 4th Congressional District has a large Hispanic population, Democrats are working to tie Donald Trump’s controversial statements on illegal immigrants and Hispanics to Hardy.
