Kim Jong Un is sending his little sister to South Korea as part of Olympic delegation

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said Wednesday North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is sending his younger sister to the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Kim Yo Jong is a close adviser to Kim Jong Un, and her name was added to a list of officials who are part of a high-level delegation from North Korea traveling through the Demilitarized Zone on Friday on their way to the games.

Kim Yo Jong will be the first member of the ruling family to visit South Korea, and the Washington Post says it would be a sign that the Kim regime wants to improve ties with the South Korean government.

Authorities in North Korea have already confirmed that Kim Yong Nam (no relation), the technical head of state in North Korea, will be going to the Olympics in Pyeongchang as part of the 22-member delegation attending the opening ceremony.

The Seoul government has been looking to improve relations with North Korea recently, and hopes to show President Trump that diplomacy can work with Pyongyang.

Vice President Mike Pence is attending the opening ceremony of the Olympics Friday. Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, will likely attend the closing ceremony.
