President Trump accused Democrats Thursday of “doing nothing” to address Dreamers as Congress quickly approaches its deadline for drafting a legislative solution for the rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
“March 5th is rapidly approaching and the Democrats are doing nothing about DACA. They Resist, Blame, Complain and Obstruct – and do nothing. Start pushing Nancy Pelosi and the Dems to work out a DACA fix, NOW!” the president tweeted Thursday.

The tweet could be a sign that Trump has lost faith that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., can deliver a deal that can pass the Senate. The original plan was to find a deal that the Senate can pass with GOP and Democratic support, but his call for Pelosi’s involvement would seem to be a shift away from that plan.
Trump announced last year he rescinded the DACA program, and wanted a legislative replacement by March 5. That gave Congress six months to come up with legislation addressing Dreamers, the name given to those brought to the United States illegally as children.
Democrats and Republicans have been working to come up with an immigration deal, but Democrats have balked at the White House’s demand that any proposal include funding for Trump’s border wall.
The White House revealed the president’s framework for an immigration deal last week, which includes a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers. The proposal also calls for $25 billion for the border wall and other border security measures, ends the visa lottery system, and limits chain migration.
Democrats have opposed the president’s proposal.
Trump discussed his immigration framework during his State of the Union on Tuesday, during which he called for Republicans and Democrats to work together to come up with a deal.
On Thursday, Trump said he was gracious for the “nice compliments and reviews” of the speech, and said it was “delivered from the heart.”
“Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history,” he said. “@FoxNews beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in. Delivered from the heart!”
