An Arizona couple is probably wishing somewhere in their memories they had not left their son home alone for a good portion of last month.
Melissa and Bobby Jo Green were arrested after leaving their 11-year-old son alone at home for an extended period of time, officials said. The mother had gone out of state before Thanksgiving, with the boy’s father leaving shortly after the holiday, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels’s office wrote on social media. It was not until Dec. 12 when the sheriff’s office received a call to check on the home and found the boy, Dannels’s office said.

The child, who had been home alone for an undetermined amount of time, told authorities there was frozen food available to eat and that he had not attended school during the two weeks after Thanksgiving, the post said. The sheriff’s office said it tried to contact the boy’s parents but was unsuccessful.

Both parents were eventually arrested Monday night as they returned home from an unknown location, and they were booked at the Cochise County Jail on three counts of child neglect with a bond of $100,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office told the Washington Examiner that the boy did not spend Christmas all by himself and was turned over to Child Protective Services after he was found.
