Twitter blocks New York Post Hunter Biden story, citing it as ‘potentially harmful’

Twitter blocked the New York Post‘s story alleging Hunter Biden had set up a meeting with a senior official at Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings and his father, Joe Biden.

Users have reported attempts to share the story that was published on Wednesday results in an error message on Twitter that says “We can’t complete this request because this link has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially harmful.”

Twitter had flagged the content as “potentially spammy or unsafe” in violation of its URL Policy.

“In line with our Hacked Materials Policy, as well as our approach to blocking URLs, we are taking action to block any links to or images of the material in question on Twitter,” Twitter said.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Twitter and Facebook.

Earlier Wednesday, Facebook had also announced it would reduce its circulation of the story, adding that it was “eligible to be fact-checked.”

Tech giants of Silicon Valley have often come under fire from conservative pundits and Republican lawmakers who allege the companies are biased in their fact-checking efforts, targeting right-leaning content more often than left.

The New York Post story, which was published Wednesday, accuses Hunter Biden of mediating communications between then-Vice President Joe Biden and Vadym Pozharskyi, a top official from the Ukrainian energy firm, in which the younger Biden served on the board of directors.

“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure,” the email from Pozharskyi dated April 17, 2015, reads, but there were no additional details about what the “meet” might entail.

The story appears to contradict previous claims by the current Democratic presidential nominee that he never spoke with any of his relatives about their private business affairs.

The alleged meeting came to light in an email from Pozharskyi to Hunter Biden, which was obtained by the New York Post. The email was reportedly discovered on a computer, which is believed to have belonged to Hunter Biden, and was left at a repair shop in Delaware.

Biden’s campaign categorically denied the meeting took place.
