‘Why doesn’t he go to another country?’: Giuliani slams Eminem for kneeling at Super Bowl

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and onetime personal lawyer of former President Donald Trump, criticized Eminem for taking a knee during the Super Bowl halftime performance.

During his Monday radio show on 77 WABC, Giuliani suggested that the rapper, who got a pass from the NFL, “go take a knee someplace else.”

“Let’s get right to Eminem taking a knee,” Giuliani said. “Why doesn’t he go to another country?”

“You know how many cops were defending him and protecting him at that game yesterday?” Giuliani said. “I mean, crime is way out of control in Los Angeles,” he added, alluding to the Super Bowl host’s 397 homicides in 2021, the most LA had in a year since 2006.

“He thinks that all happened because everyone loves Eminem? The simple reality is the NFL has made a mockery out of law enforcement, particularly with its support for the cop-killing Black Lives Matter,” Giuliani continued.

Eminem’s kneeling, coming after his performance of “Lose Yourself,” follows former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and many others taking a knee during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racism.

Some media reporting claimed that before the big game on Sunday, the NFL told Eminem not to take a knee during the halftime show, which also featured performances by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent. But the message the league delivered afterward was one of support.

“We watched all elements of the show during multiple rehearsals this week and were aware that Eminem was going to do that,” said Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the NFL.

Dr. Dre told TMZ that Eminem’s decision to take a knee was “his own” and that “there was no problem with that.”
