Pelosi calls for day of action to save Obamacare

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is calling on Democrats to make Feb. 18 a day of action in support of the Affordable Care Act.

Pelosi said Democrats should harness the energy of the “women’s march” over inauguration weekend by hosting and directing participants to events in districts across the country.

“Many marched to protect affordable healthcare in America” and what to know what they can do next, Pelosi wrote in a “dear colleague” letter circulated Friday. “On Presidents’ Day weekend, we will honor our founders’ vision of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

“Many outside groups want to protect our health care and participate in district events,” she stated, offering to share a list of such groups. Lawmakers should visit senior centers and hospitals and host roundtables, she suggested.

Democrats and advocates seeking to prevent the dismantling of President Obama’s signature healthcare law held similar, coordinated events last month. On Tuesday, House Democratic leaders are holding a news conference on the issue.

“I believe that working together and engaging the public, we can defeat efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act,” Pelosi wrote. “We must be engaged and unified to do so.”
