Florida cancels remaining grade school testing

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that all grade school testing would be canceled for the remainder of the 2020 spring semester.

DeSantis announced in a press conference on Tuesday that students in secondary education will not conduct any further testing amid fears of the coronavirus pandemic.

“From this school year on, all remaining testing for school readiness, voluntary pre-K, and K-12 will be canceled for the school year. Requirements for graduation, promotion, and final course grades will be evaluated as though those assessments did not exist,” DeSantis said.

“Parents may, at their discretion, choose to keep their child in the same grade for the 2021 school year. K-12 grades will not be calculated for 2019-2020,” he said.

The Florida governor added that all schools and scholarships will be funded to mitigate the financial impact of the decision.
