Bridge reconstruction on Landover Road over the Beltway

The Maryland State Highway Administration is starting a $3.3 million project to restore a bridge on Landover Road over the Capital Beltway.

The deck of the bridge will be replaced, and officials will also upgrade traffic detection devices for traffic traveling on the bridge and its ramps to the Beltway. Roads approaching the bridge will also be resurfaced.

The bridge, nearly 50 years old, is still structurally safe to drive on but has shown signs of deterioration, officials said. Repairs could extend its life by 30 to 50 years.

Weather permitting the project should be complete by spring 2012.

Drivers can expect staggered lane closures overnight on Landover Road (Md. 202), and during off-peak traffic hours during the day Monday through Friday.

The Beltway will experience single-lane closures northbound and southbound between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and overnight from 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
