Columnist got facts wrong in Catholic-bashing column
Re: “Uncovering the Vatican’s cover-up,” March 30
Cal Thomas’ column is not only an unfair portrayal of Pope Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church, it is flatly wrong detailing the actions in the Father Murphy case. Thomas states that a trial was never held after the Vatican was contacted.
Wrong.
Just recently, Father Thomas Brundage, the judicial vicar for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee from 1995-2003, disclosed some of the details while he was the presiding judge of the “trial against Father Murphy.” Fr. Brundage also informed Murphy that “criminal charges were going to be levied against him with regard to child sexual abuse and solicitation in the confessional.”
Thomas needs to get his facts straight before he spouts off again.
