Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos will reportedly partake in an interview Wednesday before the Jan. 6 committee as it scrambles to compose a final report before Republicans take the House.
Panelists are keen on pressing Vos about a conversation he had with former President Donald Trump back in July, as well as his knowledge of efforts to overturn the 2020 election broadly. His interview is expected to be the last one the committee conducts before its dissolution, according to Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS).

Back in September, Vos filed a federal petition to block a subpoena lodged against him by the panel, blasting their points of questioning as “irrelevant” to the panel’s work and bristling at the proximity of the initial deadline for his appearance to the midterm elections.
Other witnesses in the committee’s crosshairs had leaned on similar lines of defense in court against subpoenas from the panel, but they were largely unsuccessful. Vos’s appearance, slated for Wednesday, was reported by multiple news outlets.
Panelists had responded to reports of a call Vos had with Trump last July after the state “ruled drop-off boxes for absentee ballots outside of election offices could not be used in future elections,” his filing revealed. They demanded testimony and documents pertaining to the encounter.
Trump pushed him to take actions such as decertifying the 2020 election, but Vos refused, arguing it was unconstitutional, the Wisconsin speaker recalled in an interview with WISN during the summer. Peeved at Vos’s defiance on the 2020 election and other matters, Trump backed his primary challenger, who failed to defeat him back in their tight August race.

The Jan. 6 committee has been winding down its investigation as the Republican takeover in the House looms. Earlier this week, members purportedly met with former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. The committee has also subpoenaed Trump for testimony, though the former president has failed to capitulate.
Under its mandate, the committee is expected to release a final report on its findings. Thompson has said that the committee is nearing the endpoint of that report, hoping to release it before Christmas.

As the committee nears the finish line, there have been reports of a rift between Vice Chairwoman Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and staffers on the focus of the final report, but member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has cast doubt on that, suggesting he was not privy to such tension.
