Apple shifting iPhone 14 construction from China to India

Apple announced that it will assemble its latest iPhone in India, a significant change for the tech giant after relying on China to build most of its devices.

Apple’s primary assembler partner, Foxconn, will open a factory for constructing iPhone 14s at its India-based factory in Chennai, according to CNBC. While Apple has used Indian factories in the past to construct older models, the decision to build its latest devices there shows a waning reliance on China and its assembly centers.

“The new iPhone 14 lineup introduces groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. We’re excited to be manufacturing iPhone 14 in India,” the company said in a statement.

The company will sell phones built in Indian factories locally and in global markets. The mobile devices will be available in India in the next week.

Apple has relied on China for the production of the majority of its devices for years, often a point of complaint among China critics. However, the recent lockdowns in cities like Beijing have severely hindered production at many factories, revealing multiple flaws within the company’s production lines.
