A man shot during protests in Charlotte, N.C., Wednesday night has died, NBC Charlotte confirmed Thursday afternoon.
The African-American male was shot around 8:30 p.m. after peaceful demonstrations turned in to riots. Police said the man was shot by a fellow civilian and was taken to a hospital where he was put on life support through the night until his death Thursday afternoon.
Initially, the man was reported dead late Wednesday, but the city of Charlotte later corrected itself, saying he was in critical condition.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect who shot the man is in custody or if they know who it was.
Protesters took to the streets after the police shooting of Keith Lamont on Tuesday.
