Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich declared Attorney General Jeff Sessions the winner in Tuesday’s hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“I think he [Sessions] clearly won,” Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday evening. “I wish every Republican would look at the lesson that the Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave them today. He was passionate, he used strong language, he didn’t back down, he had the facts, and he is prepared to go nose to nose with liberals every time they smeared him.”
Gingrich blasted congressional Republicans for not taking a page out of Sessions’ book.
He also lectured the party on mostly ignoring a request from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who recently said Congress should look into whether former Attorney General Loretta Lynch obstructed justice by telling former FBI Director James Comey to refer to Hillary Clinton’s email scandal as a “matter,” not an investigation.
“I have heard nothing. This is typical. We allow the Left to set the agenda; we allow the Left to terms of the debate. We are passive, and I think that it’s really a huge mistake to not take these people head-on,” Gingrich added.
His approval for Sessions comes a day after he tweeted criticism for special counsel Robert Mueller because he selected people to join his team who have donated to Democrats.
