TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Fire Rescue crews rescued a 70-year-old man who fell inside a ship’s cargo hold while conducting an inspection.
The incident happened Monday afternoon at the Port of Tampa.
Authorities say the man was inspecting the phosphate ship Mount Hope when he fell nearly 10 feet inside the cargo hold.
The department’s heavy rescue and HAZMAT teams worked with a ladder truck and multiple rescue units to free the man. Firefighters entered the hold and put the man on a backboard before lifting him out.
The man was taken to Tampa General Hospital. His name and condition were not immediately available.
