Joe Biden and actor Tom Hanks will hold a fundraising event together the same week as the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
Biden supporters received a text message Monday evening amid the convention inviting them to join a “grassroots fundraiser” on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The link asked supporters to donate “anything” they can but noted that “most people are chipping in $25.”
“I would love the chance to sit down with you and Tom to talk about how we’re going to beat [President] Trump and the Republicans,” the text message read. The Washington Examiner reached out to Biden’s campaign for further details about the event.
The event comes as the Democratic Party holds the four-day convention, which is largely virtual given the coronavirus pandemic. Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, contracted COVID-19 early on in the health crisis and spent their quarantine in Australia.
Day One of the convention featured speeches from Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, as well as former first lady Michelle Obama. Republican speakers were led by former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and included former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, former New York Rep. Susan Molinari, and former California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman.
