I hope everyone had a wonderful “end of the summer” weekend during Labor Day and that we are all ready for the return to “normal” commutes complete with school buses and lots of pedestrians. I had the pleasure of renting a moving truck and hauling two apartments? worth of stuff for my girls as they made their way back to college. One goes to school in New York City and the other in Boston, so it?s a rather straight shot up Interstate 95 to get from here tothere.
I have complained about this before, but I wish that the people at AAA would stop trying to predict how much traffic is going to be out on the highways during a given holiday weekend. It seems like they are always wrong, at least in terms of the impact if not in pure numbers. This Labor Day it was predicted that fewer of us would be on the roads for whatever reason. That may have been true of certain roads, but it seemed to me to be worse than I?ve seen it in years on the interstates. There was more traffic and more backups caused by nothing more than volume. A 13-hour trip from Boston to just south of Baltimore is more labor than Labor Day should bring.
