Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart says that Jim Webb’s decision not to seek re-election for U.S. Senate makes it a much more winnable race for a Republican candidate – and that he’s now more likely to throw his hat into the ring.
“Running against Webb would not have been an easy thing for any Republican,” he said. “[But] the reality is that the Democrats don’t have a very deep bench in statewide candidates.”
Two names high on the list as potential candidates include Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine and former Rep. Tom Perriello.
If Stewart gets into the race on the Republican side, he would face former Sen. George Allen and Jamie Radtke, former chairwoman of the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation, in the GOP’s nomination contest.
Stewart added, though, that he still hasn’t made a decision and is focused on his supervisors’ race this fall.
