WATCH: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul met with boos at Rangers game

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered the ceremonial puck-drop at Tuesday’s Rangers game to the tune of a disapproving crowd’s boos.

When the announcer introduced Hochul, displaying her picture on the screen, fans loudly jeered at her.

Hochul smiled and waved to fans in Madison Square Garden despite the unfriendly welcome.

Officials chose the female governor to administer the puck-drop in commemoration of Women’s Empowerment Night.

This comes a month after Hochul was similarly heckled at a speech at the Democratic National Convention. Protesters met the two-time lieutenant governor with signs calling her “evictor-in-chief.”

Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin posted the video on Twitter, saying, “NY Rangers fans are ready to FIRE Kathy Hochul and are ALL IN to Save Our State! Losing is not an option.”

Zeldin is running against Hochul in the gubernatorial election. The Republican primary will take place in late June.

“On behalf of the millions of kids she fought in court to keep masked, the 34,000 health care workers she fired, all the victims of her bail reform … Rangers fans let [Hochul] have it tonight,” another Republican gubernatorial candidate, Rob Astorino, tweeted.

“In case you weren’t sure if New Yorkers are FED UP with the corrupt Hochul/Cuomo clown show in Albany, look no further than the resounding boos she received at MSG this evening,” the New York GOP tweeted. “New Yorkers are hungry for change!”

“She should probably take a hint,” Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean tweeted.

The Rangers’ Twitter account ignored the controversial greeting, instead posting photos of Hochul on the ice smiling. “Thank you to [Hochul] for joining us last night in honor of Women’s Empowerment Night!”

The team began celebrating Women’s Empowerment Month last year. The tradition sprouted out of a sponsorship from Chase Bank. Players donned new jerseys, featuring work from a female artist, in order to commemorate women.

“Through non-profit partnerships, storytelling, in-game recognition, and engagement, the Rangers will use Women’s Empowerment Night to continue to encourage and advocate for women to be well-represented in every area throughout the community, especially sports,” a press release prior to the game read.
