NY man pleads guilty to movie piracy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A New York man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement in plot to distribute movies on the Internet before they became available on DVD.

Fifty-three-year-old Gregory Cherwonik of Canandaigua, (kan-un-DAY’-gwuh) N.Y., entered the plea Wednesday in federal court in Alexandria.

Prosecutors say Cherwonik was part of an organization called IMAGiNE Group, which sought to release copies of new moves only being shown in theaters on the Internet.
