White’s Ferry caught in debris for 3 hours

A ferry that transports cars across the Potomac River got caught in debris Thursday, then began drifting downstream after a cable broke.

White’s Ferry was stopped for more than three hours before it began drifting, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

The ferry driver guided the boat to shore and 14 passengers were rescued in a small boat. No one was injured.

Their vehicles were still on the boat Thursday afternoon.

The ferry takes vehicles and passengers from Montgomery County on the Maryland side to Loudoun County on the Virginia side.
