RNC covered over $350,000 of Trump’s private legal expenses in March

The Republican National Committee paid hundreds of thousands of dollars of former President Donald Trump‘s personal legal expenses in March, according to a new financial disclosure.

The RNC paid more than $350,000 to attorneys Susan Necheles and Ronald Fischetti, who are representing Trump as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James investigate his real estate dealings in New York. The legal expenses were sent on March 3, a financial report filed by the RNC on Wednesday evening showed.

Necheles’s law firm received $238,541 from the committee, while Fischetti’s law firm received $112,275, and both firms were paid for “legal and compliance services,” according to the financial filing.

Trump’s request last summer that the RNC pay for his legal expenses was granted in the fall, a source at the RNC told the Washington Post. After approving Trump’s request, the committee made two payments totaling $121,670 last October.

“As a leader of our party, defending President Trump and his record of achievement is critical to the GOP,” the Republican Party said in a statement at the time. “It is entirely appropriate for the RNC to continue assisting in fighting back against the Democrats‘ never ending witch hunt and attacks on him.”

The Republican Party agreed to pay up to $1.6 million in legal fees for Trump, sources close to the decision revealed to the outlet last December.
