Derailment at Union Station suspends MARC service

A MARC train derailment in Washington’s Union Station has prompted the Maryland Transit Administration to suspend all train service until further notice, according to the MTA website.

According to Amtrak, the accident occurred just after 9 a.m. when an unloaded MARC commuter train and a private railcar bumped into each other while changing tracks at Union Station. The trains did not overturn. Three Amtrak employees and two occupants of the private railcar received minor injuries, Amtrak said.

MTA said emergency response personnel and vehicles are on the scene, and Metro will honor MARC tickets.

Amtrak service is delayed due to the accident.
