Clinton and Yang Play Nice

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton maintained her perfect record of suck-up diplomacy with the Chinese tyranny when she emerged from her meeting with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi today to announce they’d agreed to let bygones be bygones on the little contretemps between an unarmed U.S. surveillance ship and the Chinese vessels that harassed it in international waters on Sunday. “We have each stated our positions,” said she, in the parlance of the elementary school hall monitor, “but the important point of agreement coming out of my discussions with Minister Yang is that we must work hard in the future to avoid such incidents and to avoid this particular incident having consequences that are unforeseen.” And what, after all, are a few jailed dissidents, silenced journalists, or oppressed Tibetans between friends?
