Some Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t willing to support Hillary Clinton even if she’s the Democratic nominee.
MSNBC spoke to six Sanders supporters. Four said they couldn’t support Clinton, and two rationalized supporting her, in part because they say she’s better than Trump.
One Sanders supporter who can’t support Clinton said she isn’t “one of us.”
“You can’t sit there and tell me that you live in a huge mansion, and I can barely afford my rent. She doesn’t have a humble bone in her body. And she doesn’t understand why she’s not getting support from women of the country and it’s because she’s not relatable. I feel like, as a woman, I’m not going to choose the candidate just because of their gender. That’s ridiculous to me.”
She said she would write Sanders’s name in. “It’s not fair that I should have to choose the lesser of two evils.”
Another Sanders supporter said he and his friends would support Clinton over Trump due to pragmatism and same-sex marriage. “As much as they love Bernie, they have so much more to lose if Donald Trump gets to nominate somebody to the Supreme Court.”
