Maryland Live casino seeking subcontractors

The casino planned for Anne Arundel County is hosting an event Monday for subcontractors, vendors and suppliers to participate in the construction of the $200 million project. The facility will be the largest casino in Maryland at 300,000 square feet. A 4,800-space parking garage is also planned.

The casino, which is being developed by a subsidiary company of Baltimore’s Cordish Cos., is also encouraging minority- and women-owned businesses to attend. More than 150 minority business owners attended a February outreach event.

Construction on the casino is gearing up after more than a year of delays. Maryland Live was awarded its slots license in 2009, but that award was contested by the Maryland Jockey Club, which operates nearby Laurel Park. The Jockey Club and its owner, MI Developments, contend the casino will hurt the racetrack’s business.
