A House panel is looking at the struggles with combating doping in international events such as the Olympics, after revelations last year of a state-sponsored doping scheme in Russia.
A subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee will hold a hearing next Tuesday on ways to improve the anti-doping system. The panel noted that the subcommittee is holding the hearing following last summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and before the 2018 winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
“This will be an important discussion to protect the revered distinction both the Olympic Games and their world class athletes hold,” said Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pa., the chairman of the oversight subcommittee.
The hearing comes a few months after Russian officials admitted to the New York Times they no longer disputed evidence of a state-sponsored doping operation.
