Court unseals trove of documents from Ghislaine Maxwell investigation

A Manhattan federal court judge unsealed many documents connected to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

Judge Loretta Preska unsealed the investigative documents on Thursday night, which included the deposition of Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s alleged victims, from a civil lawsuit filed in 2015. In her sworn testimony, Giuffre detailed some of the alleged abuse she and others suffered while on Epstein’s island.

Her testimony aligns with charges that Maxwell procured underage girls for sex as part of a trafficking ring alongside Epstein. Maxwell has been kept in jail while awaiting her trial. She has denied any wrongdoing.

Other documents that were unsealed include correspondence between Epstein and Maxwell from 2015. Maxwell’s attorney asked the court not to release the documents because they were “extremely personal, confidential and subject to considerable abuse by the media.” Her attorney said the documents included “intrusive questions about her sex life.”

According to reports, some of the documents appear to implicate several predominant figures, including former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, model and TV host Heidi Klum, and The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Many other names were redacted.
