Oprah tweet fuels speculation that she will run for president in 2020

Oprah Winfrey fueled anticipation Thursday that she was considering a tilt for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

“Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!” the media mogul tweeted in response to a column heralding her as the Democratic Party’s “best hope” to reclaim the White House during the next presidential election cycle.

Winfrey’s tweet sparked a social media frenzy from supporters and detractors alike.

“Oprah you know that you have my vote and I will work hard to make you the First Woman President of the USA!!! What do you think?” Jorge Mendoza‏ tweeted.

“Oprah, I think you would be phenomenal. Suggest you start in Congress (Senate perhaps?) to learn the ropes. Do it!!!” Marie Smith added.

But John Lamb wrote: “You seem like a smart, sincere person, but we kinda need people with experience in government and public service.”

Some social media users, however, were more direct and to the point.

“No,” Jenny McNabb tweeted.

Winfrey has recently returned to the limelight as a special correspondent for CBS’ “60 Minutes.” Her debut segment on the program Sunday waded heavily into politics as she interviewed a spectrum of voters on their thoughts on the state of the U.S.
