Man found guilty of murdering wife by spiking her cereal with heroin

A man in Michigan was convicted of murder and other crimes Wednesday after killing his wife by spiking her cereal with heroin.

Jason Harris, 47, was found guilty of carrying out a murder scheme to kill his 36-year-old wife, Christina Harris, in 2014, according to a report.

Investigators initially believed Christina Harris’s death was an accident at the couple’s home in Genesee County, but relatives insisted the woman did not use drugs, authorities said.

A sample of breast milk, frozen for the couple’s infant child, also showed no evidence of drug use, according to investigators.

Two weeks after his wife’s death, Jason Harris had another woman move into his home. He was not charged with any crime until 2019, five years after the incident, authorities said.

Jason Harris was found to have prepared a bowl of cereal for his wife on the night of Sept. 28, 2014, by lacing it with a lethal dose of heroin, authorities said.

The now-convicted murderer then took his wife to bed, where she was later found unresponsive and cold to the touch, according to investigators.

“This was a very tragic case, and my heart goes out to the family and friends,” said prosecutor David Leyton.

Jason Harris was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, solicitation of murder, and delivery of a controlled substance causing death, according to court documents.
