Ken Starr, the independent counsel who investigated former President Bill Clinton in the 1990s, said Saturday that Rudy Giuliani is an asset to President Trump as he tries to navigate the ongoing federal Russia investigation.
“Rudy being on the team is extremely helpful,” Starr during an interview on Fox News. “I have the highest regard for Rudy Giuliani. I think Rudy is going to be giving the president very good advice.”
Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, is a legal adviser to Trump, a position he assumed about a month ago.
He has become the public face speaking for Trump, particularly in matters related to special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and whether the Trump campaign conspired with Moscow.
Giuliani has taken on more of an offensive strategy in contesting the integrity of the investigation.
He recently proclaimed that Mueller’s team told him it hopes to finish by Sept. 1 its investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice in the Russia probe.
