The son of D.C. Mayor Vince Gray’s former chief of staff contradicted statements made by his mother, the latest twist in the ongoing saga of the D.C. Council’s investigation into Gray’s hiring practices.
Nicholas Hall testified to Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh’s government operations committee on Friday behind closed doors because concerns about a medical condition kept him from testifying in public. The committee released his testimony on Thursday.
Hall was appointed to a position in the parks and recreation department with a $55,000 annual salary in February. His mother, Gerri Mason Hall, had testified at a previous hearing that her son had applied for the job through a government website.
But, Nicholas Hall said on Friday, “I actually gave my resume to my mother. I was aware that there were submissions being held for people that had done work for the campaign that could be expedited through online or in a number of different ways and my mother let me know that I could give her a copy, hard copy of my resume and she would get it to the people that it needed to be given to, the same people that would be receiving the resumes online or however way. So I gave it to her.”
He later added, “she was just going to give it to the person who handled all the things and sought out jobs for, for people.”
