Ohio Democrat due to announce 2020 presidential run on ABC’s ‘The View’

Congressman Tim Ryan will reportedly announce a run for president this week.

The Ohio Democrat is scheduled to appear on “The View” Thursday and will then appear at a Saturday rally in Youngstown, Ohio, and he will potentially announce his bid for the Democratic nomination at the event, according to BuzzFeed News.

Ryan, 45, has a strong base of union support in the Rust Belt state. Bill Padisak, president of the Mahoning-Trumbull AFL-CIO, said he has been asked to shore up support for Saturday’s rally.

“I believe he is going to announce his candidacy for presidency,” Padisak said.

Ryan, who has served in Congress since 2003, is best known for his unsuccessful challenge of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to become the Democratic leader of the House back in 2016. He said last year before Democrats took the House that he had “not closed the door” on another challenge but ultimately decided against the move.

The congressman has made his name as a stalwart defender of autoworkers and union members in Ohio. He was in Iowa last week where he met with voters and attended a forum with other presidential candidates.
