Malia Obama turns 21 on America’s birthday

Malia Obama turned 21 on Independence Day.

President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter shares her milestone birthday with the United States, which turned 243 on the Fourth of July.

The former president celebrated America’s and his daughter’s birthdays on Twitter.

“Happy Fourth of July, everybody! This is always a great day in the Obama family: a chance to celebrate America — and Malia’s birthday, too. Hope all of you are able to get some time with friends, family, and fireworks,” he wrote.

Malia might have spent her birthday with a friend who also has a familiar last name. On the campaign trail in Waterloo, Iowa, yesterday, Obama’s Vice President Joe Biden talked about the two families’ friendship. “My number-two granddaughter is with his eldest daughter out in California right now hanging out at a friend’s house,” he said. Biden’s granddaughter Maisy, 18, attended Washington’s elite Sidwell Friends high school with Malia’s sister, Sasha, 18.

Malia has been a student at Harvard University since 2017, shortly after her father left office. She moved into the White House at age 10 when her father became president in January 2009.
