District police collect guns
D.C. police will hold a gun amnesty Saturday for people to turn in their weapons — no questions asked. Gun owners will be granted amnesty from any gun possession charges that might apply. No identification is required. Only weapons in working order will receive payment. No payments will be made to gun dealers.
The program, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is open to residents of D.C., Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, Arlington County and Alexandria. Residents can take their guns to: Shiloh Baptist Church, 1510 9th Street NW; Holy Christian House of Praise, 5110 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave. NE; and Union Temple Baptist Church, 1225 W Street, SE. – Scott McCabe
Montgomery police discover woman’s body in her backyard
Montgomery County Police detectives found the body of Laurie Francesca Fitzgerald, 48, in the rear of her residence in a wooded area in Potomac Monday.
Fitzgerald had not been seen or heard from since Dec. 2 at 5:00 p.m. Her relatives reported her missing last Friday. The circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation, but no evidence of foul play was found. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore. – Kathleen Miller
Police arrest men for using fake $100 bills
Fairfax County police arrested three men in Mount Vernon Dec. 6 for using fake $100 bills at a Marshalls store and a Target store on Richmond Highway.
Delaware residents Scott M. Spinella, 41, Chad H. Simonsen, 22, and Owen S. Davis, were arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Each was charged with four counts of forging bank notes and four counts of obtaining money by false pretense, police said. The investigation is continuing. – Cathy Gainor
