More parents under investigation in college admissions scandal

More arrests could be on the horizon as federal authorities begin to question a new set of wealthy parents allegedly involved in the largest college admissions scheme ever prosecuted by the Justice Department.

Federal prosecutors have started informing some parents that they are now under investigation as part of the probe. Arrests in the college admissions scandal were announced in March, with dozens of parents charged for bribing their children’s way into elite universities across the U.S.

Among those arrested include “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin and “Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman. Huffman joined a dozen other parents and pleaded guilty to the charges last month. Loughlin decided to enter a not guilty plea, a decision she reportedly regrets.

The Education Department has opened up a separate investigation into the colleges caught up in the scandal, and in late March, Yale rescinded an admissions offer tied to the scheme.

It is not immediately clear how many additional parents are under investigation for their alleged roles in the scandal or if any new arrests are imminent.
