Think of it as the calm before the storm, so to speak. This weekend will seem virtually lifeless compared to what will be going on around town next weekend, so we’ve got a few ideas to help you rest up and have a little fun before the big week ahead.
Train like a pro: If you’re a fan of improv theater and you’ve always wondered if you’ve got what it takes, this weekend the Washington Improv Theater has a way for you to test your skill for free. These low-key, low-stress workshops focus on creativity and teamwork. There’s a workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and another one (also from 7 to 9 p.m.) on Sunday. Get your motor runnin’: Maybe you’re ready to experience life outside the cramped quarters of your trusty sedan. If that’s the case, you may want to do a little “try before you buy” at this weekend’s International Motorcycle Show at the Convention Center. The show will feature the latest in street bikes, dirt bikes and cruisers (everything from Vespa to Harley-Davidson), a family-friendly stunt show, prize giveaways and more. The show begins at 4 p.m. Friday and wraps up Sunday. For more information or to buy tickets (you can save some money buying the tickets online), visit motorcycleshows.com and click “Washington, DC.”
Weekend rock: John Eddie, with special guests The Steve Palmer Band, bring a night of folk rock to Jammin’ Java in Vienna this Saturday. Doors open at 9:15 p.m. and the show begins at 9:30. Tickets are $15. For more information, visit jamminjava.com.
Be a detective: There’s been a murder at the National Gallery of Art. OK, not really. But Watson Adventure’s latest scavenger hunt will send you on a trail with cryptic clues to help you solve the mystery. As your team discovers more information about the gallery’s art, the tale of the museum’s planned purchase of a Da Vinci painting will come into focus. It’s up to you and your team to crack the code and figure out whodunit. The hunt begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, and this one’s for adults only. To buy your tickets or learn more about future D.C. scavenger hunts, visit watsonadventures.com.
Sports fans: See if the Capitals can keep their seven-game winning streak alive Friday night as they face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Verizon Center. For tickets, visit capitals.nhl.com. The Wizards are also home Saturday for a 7 p.m. game against Charlotte.
