Ash Carter, Dick Cheney get ‘Peace Through Strength Award’

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation has announced that Defense Secretary Ash Carter and former Vice President Dick Cheney will be honored this December for their efforts to strengthen and support military members.

The Reagan National Defense Forum, held at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, will present Carter and Cheney with the “Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Award.”

Presented annually since 2013, the award is given to honor those who have consistently applied a strategy to strengthen the military, support the service members, reinforce defense systems, and safeguard the interests of the American people.

“Secretary Carter and Vice President Cheney are both immensely worthy of this honor, having dedicated their careers to protecting and preserving freedom through a strong national defense and showed immeasurable respect for the role America’s defenses play in strengthening world peace,” said Frederick Ryan Jr., chairman of the board of trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming them back to the Reagan Library to present them with the award and continue the conversation on building peace through strength at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum.”

Carter and Cheney will join former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., former Defense Secretaries Leon Panetta and Robert Gates, and former Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., as award recipients.
